Race #2 – The Euro Challenge 2016

‘The Sean Rice Show’

The Euro Challenge’s 22km surfski course consistently has world class downwind conditions bringing paddlers from all over Europe and the world to the beautiful Spanish town La Vila Joiosa, however, conditions didn’t line up perfectly this year. The wind was perfect on Friday (as always), but the forecast was for little wind on race day the next day. So the course was set for the best downwind possible, unfortunately, the wind came through the day before the race. Athletes had to prepare themselves for a tough day out!

The start was fast and hard with the group splitting up early, Sean Rice taking the lead and holding his lead throughout to take the win. Walter Bouzan finished in 2nd place and Oscar Chalupsky showing he can still mix it in with the top guys finished in 3rd place.

In the womens Amaia Osaba Olaberri took the win from Cloe Bunnet. “I was leading for a lot of the race and then Amaia caught up to me and we diced it out for a bit and then she took the lead and I could not respond. Well done Amaia on your win, while I was only 30 odd seconds behind her in second place with Aurora Figueras taking the final spot on the podium. Again it was awesome to be in such a close race.”
